PES 2021 MatchUP – New Game Mode + Option File Editor by [email protected]

MatchUP is basically a never before done attempt at generating a valid game save file with the conditions that you specify.

Introduction​
Ever since I have played PES I have always dreamt of having a game that had the gameplay of PES but with the features of a management game.
Each year I thought that konami would put some of our most requested features in ML. But sadly it has never happened.
And now after seeing their current plans I doubt ML will ever get the attention it deserves.
For all of us, gameplay in PES has always been the best. It was always the features department that Konami have been lacking.

Imagine that you had both PES and Football Manager. Now if you could do all the managing stuff in FM and then on matchdays play the actual match in PES instead of simulating the game in FM how fun would that be ?!

I have been fascinated by this idea for a long time and to bring this dream one step closer to reality I decided to find ways to make PES behave more like an API instead of being a stand alone game, i.e I want to give PES a set of inputs and then it will give me the desired output once the match is played. There are two ways to make PES behave to your commands. One way is to directly alter the memory addresses that PES occupies like Sider is doing, but for that you would need to be master JUCE himself :), another easier/safer way I discovered is to make a save file that PES would be able load up and play. Fetching the match results from the game would then be required to complete the results part of the API. From this idea MatchUP was created.

FAQ​

So what is MatchUP?
This is basically a new way to play PES.
MatchUP is rather a proof of concept, that is we can separate the two things required in a football game i.e 1)Gameplay/Graphics and 2)UI/Features.
Gameplay/Graphics is a thing that is hard to create for us indie developers. But UI/Features is something that is limited by our own imagination.
Currently MatchUP can act as the UI/Features part of the game. It will generate a save file based on the settings you choose. This save file can then be loaded up in PES like any other cup tournament.Once you have played the game in PES the results are then automatically loaded up by MatchUP.

To make MatchUP more useful I have linked it with OneFootball API. Now we can choose any match that is being played live around the world and play the game in PES with the same lineups.

In addition to this I have also created an Option File editor and a Gameplan editor which was required for me to take full control of the game the way I wanted.

I imagine this app will be useful for gameplay tinkerers who like to experiment with player attributes.Now you can just edit any player and generate a match where you can test out your things without having to bother about updating and reloading option files.You can play with any team against any team in any tournament without any restrictions.You can play with 11 Messi’s vs 11 Ronaldo’s in the Champions League Final if thats what you want 🙂

In MatchUP you can play a one off match against any team in any tournament of your choice with the match length/difficulty that you specify.
MatchUP is just a tool to generate the cup save file.
Once the save file is generated you will be able to load that file up in the “Kick off/Cup/Load” menu in PES21.
After you have played the match in PES the match results will be displayed in MatchUP app automatically.

Instructions
1) Start PES and alt-tab into your desktop
2) Run MatchUP and go to “Play Match” menu and choose the required match parameters or you can go to “Live Fixture” menu and choose any match.
3) Once you have chosen the match settings you can click on “Play Match” button, this will generate the Save File.
4) You can then Alt-Tab into PES , the save file will be visible in the “Kick off/Cup/Load” menu. You can then load up the save file and play normally.
5) Once the game is over you will have to manually save the game **.
6) Once the game is saved, MatchUP will automatically detect changes in the save file and will display a popup with the match results.

So how does this all work?
Well in essence it’s nothing but an alternative UI to “Kick off/Cup/New Tournament”. It will generate a Cup Save file for a Final/Semi-Final match between the two selected teams *. Once the file is generated, MatchUP will then go into monitoring mode where it will wait for match results.
The steps would be
1)Start PES and alt-tab into your desktop
2)Run MatchUP and go to “Play Match” menu and choose the required match parameters or you can go to “Live Fixture” menu and choose any match.

What is “Live Fixtures”?
Live fixtures are matches that are currently being played anywhere in the world.
Currently I am loading up fixtures from https://onefootball.com/en/matches.
You can choose any match that has finished playing from the list.
MatchUp will then attempt to create a save file based on the selected Tournament,Team and the actual players that were involved.
Please note that MatchUP tries to the best of its ability to match the Team/Player/Tournament names to the names in PES database
However there will always be some names that aren’t found or some mismatches that might occur.But you are in complete control of the process and you can teach MatchUP if it makes any mistakes.Changes will be remembered next time

Does this app work with any mega-patch or option File?
This app was tested on Evo-web option file. It should work with any patch and Option file that have proper player data.This App requires all players to be present in option file, which might not be the case in certain mega-patches. You could try with the default provided option file or use the provided import utility to import player data.

Is my Option File modified when I use this app?
No.When you load up MatchUP for the first time, it will ask for the option file that you are currently using.It will then make a local copy of that file which will be used throughout the app. Your original EDIT file in the save game folder will never be modified.
The save file itself contains all the information that is there in the EDIT file. So all player attributes/lineup/gameplan changes are directly made into the save file.

So what next is planned?
Nothing much I am afraid.
This was always a proof of concept app, something to motivate the community that we don’t have to give up on PES21.
That we as a community can take control of what we want from PES and that it’s possible to dream to make a game of your own with the gameplay of PES.

Having said that, I will continue to fix bugs and add more features to the Option File editor.
Also there is a “Season Mode” planned, which would be something like taking control of a team throughout a season from any of the past real life seasons like 2019-20, 2020-21 etc.
You can change the course of history by avoiding relegation or winning the trophy etc.You will be able to start your journey from any point in time in the real life season. It’s something which will require considerable time/effort.I will assess it after the response I get from the community for this App.
I am also willing to listen to changes suggested by the community.

Now that I have been able to reach my goal I will also look into making a management game, which will have all the features I would have liked to see in PES. It might take me a year or more but I know that one day PES21 might have all the things I had desired in a football game ever since I was a kid 🙂

* Note : Single/First/Second leg matches will create a semi-final save file match between the 2 selected teams.The 2 other CPU teams in the semi-finals will be replicas of the user team itself.For “Final” match you will be able to enjoy trophy celebration if you win

** Note : The generated save file has the auto-save option turned on by default. So for Single/First/Second leg matches PES will automatically save the game once you progress to the next round (i.e to the final) and so MatchUP will automatically popup with the match results, However if you lose the Semi-Final match or your are playing the “Final” match, PES does not automatically save the game once it is over. You will have to manually save the game when it’s over, so that MatchUP can detect the changes and load up the results

*** Note : PES saves limited information about the match results. It will save scoreline/player ratings/ injuries/cards it doesn’t save other match stats like attack stats/defensive stats/individual player stats / Man-of Match etc

Please Note that this app was developed and tested in Win 10 with Evo-web option file as the base. So your mileage might vary.

The PES 2021 Sider Module Gameplay Loader by Baris is a module to change any gameplay mod for eFootball PES 2020 and PES 2021 PC. Sider is required to use this module.

2. Extract with WinRAR, Copy folders “content” and “modules” to the directory where sider.exe is located.

3. Open sider.ini with notepad and add this line lua.module = “GameplayLoader.lua”

4. Save it and done.

5. Now open sider.exe and play PES 2021 via Steam.

FAQ (as seen in 2021 too)

Usage: How do I add a new gameplay mod?

1) Download the desired gameplay mod. You can find some gameplay mods here: New gameplay with dt18_all.cpk

2) Since the gameplay mods are usually packed as .CPK files you’ll have to extract them using e.g. CRI Packed File Maker.

3) Copy the extracted files to the following location within your sider directory:

content/gameplay-loader

If you have a gameplay mod called “vanilla”, than the folder should be placed here:

content/gameplay-loader/vanilla

Inside this “vanilla” folder you should see the following files:

4) List your new gameplay mod in the file gameplay-mods.csv. One gameplay mod name per line! So in our example this csv file contains only:

How do I know which gameplay mod has been loaded?

[Sider Module] Scoreboard Server 1.30 For Sider 6.3.5+ (6.3.6 or newer highly recommended) by zlac – Compatible PES 2020 and 2021 latest sider.

Features:
– GDB-style unlimited scoreboard management
– file packaging is identical to .cpk scoreboards – files for each scoreboard must be extracted from their original .cpk files and placed into separate folders (see image below – shows 4 scoreboards – EPL, sb1, sb2, sb3)
– scoreboards are assigned to competitions via map_competitions.txt file – i.e. all teams participating in particular competition will use identical scoreboard – see the included map_competitions.txt file for some examples
– more than one scoreboard can be assigned to a single competition – in this case, script selects one scoreboard randomly

Required folder structure for one scoreboard inside contentscoreboard-server:
custom_scoreboard_nameextracted_contents_of_one_scoreboard_cpk_archive​

– .txt assignment file reloading (key 0) – available at any moment, useful for making quick fixes to .txt assignment file, without needing to restart the game

– toggle between manual ball selection and automatic scoreboard assignment via .txt file (key 9)
* if manual selection is used, then manually selected scoreboard has priority over the scoreboard which would otherwise be assigned via .txt file

– additional options, available only in manual selection mode:

• Manual selection through all the available scoreboards (PageUp/PageDown keys)
  • IMPORTANT: only the scoreboards which are assigned via .txt files are available for cycling-through!! A scoreboard which exists only as a subfolder in the external content root (contentscoreboard-server), but isn’t assigned to any competition via .txt file WILL NOT be available for manual selection!
• Favorite scoreboard – current manual selection can be saved permanently as a favorite scoreboard (key 7) or recalled to be used later (key 8)

– scoreboard previews on overlay menu

• scoreboards have no preview files yet – someone needs to make them
• preview file name: preview.dds
• preview file location: scoreboard’s top folder   <your_sider_dir>contentscoreboard-serversb4preview.dds

– automatic selection of league-mode scoreboard(s) in exhibition mode if both teams belong to the same league (requires CommonLib v1 to be installed)

• applies only to LEAGUES – cups and other competitions are ignored
• script reads CompetitionEntry.bin file to determine whether two teams belong to the same league – selection may not be 100% accurate if teams have been moved to different leagues only in EDIT mode

Current limitations:

• Inaccurate scoreboard selection during replays – saved replays do not include tournament_ID – if the scoreboard used in saved replay has been assigned via map_competition.txt, then there is no way to re-select exactly the same ball during replay – exhibition mode scoreboard is most likely going to be selected.
• It is not advisable to change any overlay-related settings after the match-loading screen has appeared or during the match. In-game behavior will be unpredictable in such circumstances.
• You’ve been warned 🙂 Make your selections BEFORE you hit the Next match button.

How to add more scoreboards:
Scoreboards need to be added on one by one basis – each subfolder under the <your_sider_dir>contentscoreboard-server must contain only one scoreboard. The following steps need to be repeated for every scoreboard you want to add.

1. Find, download and unpack the scoreboard you want to add. Unpacked structure should be similar to what you can see encircled in red on the image above … there should be folder named common with several subfolders and files.
Important: make sure that the archive contains only one scoreboard. If it has more than one scoreboard, make sure to split the original content into multiple folders where each folder contains only one scoreboard (again, each starting with common folder).
2. Create new subfolder for your in <your_sider_dir>contentscoreboard-server – name that subfolder as you want, but let’s assume you’ll name it sb4
3. Copy the content of the extracted archive (but starting from the “common…… ” folder) inside the sb4 folder you created in step 2. (see also the above image)
4. Add the necessary assignment lines to map_competitions.txt to have your scoreboard automatically assigned to one or more competitions (one line or many lines per competition, depends on how many stages certain competition has and how many different competition IDs it uses consequently) – you have to use the folder name from step 2.

In collaboration with predator002, we have delegated playing of his INTRO1 anthems (the ones which are played at the very beginning of a match intro, before players are shown in tunnels) to Scoreboard Server

[NEW PES 2020 v1.1] Short introductory broadcast anthems are supported
those anthems are played (and stopped) BEFORE game shows players in tunnels
anthem file must be named intro_anthem.mp3 and must be located in root folder of your scoreboard – every scoreboard can have its own broadcaster intro, one .mp3 file per scoreboard root
additional contentscoreboard-serverDefault folder is provided as generic fallback – if certain competition does not have scoreboard assigned in scoreboard server, then generic intro_anthem.mp3 from Default folder will be played
IMPORTANT: Only generic intro_anthem.mp3 from Default folder IS ALWAYS used in EXHIBITION MODE!! Intros from specific scoreboard folders are only used in leagues and cups.
All intro anthems were created by predator002 and are included in scoreboard pack in post.

You may want to wait for predator002 to update his tunnel anthems module too (he’s going to remove playback of INTRO1 anthems from his package)

How to use:

1. [ONLY if you had initial v1.0 installed] Make backup of your old v1 version of Scoreboard Server contentscoreboard-server folder and then delete contentscoreboard-server folder
2. Unpack v1.10 archive and copy folders content and modules to your sider folder (overwrite if asked)
3. Unpack v1.30 archive and copy folder modules to your sider (overwrite if asked) (v1.30 includes both v1.20 and v1.11, those two are not needed any more for fresh install)
4. (If not done already) Download and install CommonLib.lua v1 (follow the instructions for CommonLib installation!)
5. (If not done already) Add lua.module = “ScoreboardServer.lua” under CommonLib in sider.ini file
